Acriopsis liliifolia (J. Koenig) Seidenf. – of Sarawak/Borneo – around 870m ASL.

Acriopsis liliifolia is a species of orchid (Orchidaceae) in the genus Acriopsis. The name is derived from the basionym Epidendrum liliifolium J. Koenig (1791); the combination Acriopsis liliifolia, which is commonly used today, was published by P. Ormerod in 1995. The species is distributed in South and Southeast Asia to the western Pacific; Borneo is part of its natural range. Within Borneo, it is documented in Sarawak, among other places. Ecologically, the species is predominantly described as epiphytic (i.e. it grows on trees), but can also occur lithophytically. It is a sympodial orchid with pseudobulbs and narrow, linear leaves; the inflorescences can be long and branched and bear numerous small flowers (up to around 200), which are described as pale greenish and often purple-spotted.

The genus name Acriopsis is derived from Greek (akris “grasshopper” and opsis “appearance/similarity”) and refers to the grasshopper-like shape of the flower column; The species epithet liliifolia literally means ‘lily-leaved’ or ‘with lily-like leaves’.
