Giant orange Huntsman Spider – Heteropoda borneensis (Thorell, 1890) of south Sarawak / Borneo.

Heteropoda borneensis (Thorell, 1890) is a giant huntsman spider (family Sparassidae) from the genus Heteropoda. The species was originally described as Urgulania borneensis and later listed as Panaretus borneensis, among other names; in the combination commonly used today, it is treated as Heteropoda borneensis.
According to the World Spider Catalog, the species has been reported from Malaysia and Singapore as well as from Borneo (Brunei; Indonesia; Malaysia). In a recent study, the male was depicted for the first time; in addition, males and females were redescribed and new distribution data (including first records from Brunei, Indonesia [Kalimantan Utara], Malaysia [Kuala Lumpur; Sabah] and Singapore) were provided. The genus name Heteropoda is etymologically explained as coming from the ancient Greek ἕτερος (“different”) + πούς (‘foot’). The species epithet borneensis is a Latin adjective meaning “originating from the island of Borneo.”
