Red-striped black bambootail, Prodasineura verticalis (Selys, 1860) of south Sarawak / Borneo – around 900m ASL.
Prodasineura verticalis (Selys, 1860) is a small damselfly (Zygoptera) from the Platycnemididae family. The species was originally described by Edmond de Selys Longchamps in 1860 under the name Alloneura verticalis; Borneo is given as the type locality. As a small damselfly, P. verticalis is predatory: adult animals mainly prey on small insects, which they catch in flight; the aquatic larvae are also predators and feed on small aquatic animals up to larger prey such as mosquito larvae, depending on their stage of development.
The species epithet verticalis is a Latin adjective -> “vertical”.
