Scaly-eared Diminutive Leaf-Litter Skink – Tytthoscincus leproauricularis Karin, Das & Bauer, 2016 of Sarawak / Borneo – around 1280m ASL
Tytthoscincus leproauricularis Karin, Das & Bauer, 2016 (Scincidae) is a very small leaf litter skink, so far only documented from the western ridge of Gunung Penrissen (Kuching Division, Sarawak, Malaysia; 1,100 m; holotype CAS 259190; paratype ZRC 2.7122) – I was also able to find this species on the eastern side. Diagnostically, it is characterised by a combination of features including very small body size (SVL ≈ 33.5 mm), four enlarged supraocularia, separate prefrontalia, two lorealia, 6–7 supralabials/5 infralabials, ten smooth subdigital lamellae on toe IV, enlarged precloacal scales and the absence of light/dark dorsolateral stripes. The species is still considered to be known only from the original description; the IUCN lists it as ‘Data Deficient (DD)’.
