Xenodermine Snake, Java Tubercle Snak or Dragon snake, Xenodermus javanicus REINHARDT, 1836 – of Borneo – around 400m ASL
Xenodermus javanicus belongs to the family Xenodermidae and is the type species of the genus Xenodermus (and thus also the type species of the family). Its documented distribution includes the Malay Peninsula and parts of the Greater Sunda Islands; among the localities listed are Sumatra, Java, and Borneo (as well as the Natuna Islands), with the type locality on Java (as reported by the Reptile Database). The generic name Xenodermus is formed from Ancient Greek xeno– (“strange/foreign”) and dérma (“skin”); the specific epithet javanicus is a Latin adjective meaning “of Java”.
