Tree-Snail of the Amphidromus (Linnaeus, 1758) genus from Sarawak / Borneo around 1100m ASL.
The genus name is derived from the ancient Greek words amphí (‘on both sides’) and drómos (‘running’) and refers to the unusual occurrence of both right- and left-handed shells within the genus, sometimes even within the same population. Amphidromus species are predominantly arboreal in evergreen tropical forests and are typically found on the trunks and branches of trees and shrubs. It is assumed that Amphidromus ssp. feeds on microscopic fungi, lichens or terrestrial algae.
