Striped bronzeback, Dendrelaphis caudolineatus (Günther, 1858) of Sabah / Borneo around 200m ASL.

Dendrelaphis caudolineatus (Gray, 1834) is a snake from the Colubridae family; the species is listed in the Ahaetuliinae subfamily. It is widespread in Southeast Asia; it is specifically mentioned for Borneo. The genus name Dendrelaphis is etymologically explained from the Greek dendron (‘tree’) and a snake reference (Elaphis). For the species name caudolineatus, it is noted that Gray did not give a derivation in the first description; the interpretation (mentioned in the literature) is Latin cauda (‘tail’) and linea (‘line’), referring to the longitudinal lines of the pattern. The species is described as diurnal and ‘fully arboreal’, and it is oviparous (egg-laying). Its diet consists mainly of lizards and (tree) frogs; in general, the genus Dendrelaphis is also described as predominantly arboreal, diurnal and feeding mainly on lizards and amphibians.
