Rentapia everetti (Boulenger, 1896) (Everett’s Asian tree toad or marbled tree toad) of Sarawak / Borneo – around 950m ASL
Rentapia everetti (Boulenger, 1896) is an arboreal toad (family Bufonidae) endemic to northern Borneo, where it occurs in Sarawak, Sabah, and Brunei, and possibly adjacent Kalimantan, between roughly 150m and 1,050 m a.s.l. Adults exhibit a strictly arboreal lifestyle, typically occupying riparian vegetation along small to medium-sized forest streams. Due to this canopy-oriented behavior, encounters with the species are rare, and it is considered difficult to observe in the field. R. everetti inhabits primarily undisturbed primary forest, though it can also occur in well-preserved secondary forest at mid-elevations. Males grow to about 70 mm and females up to 95 mm snout–vent length. Morphological traits such as elongated fingers with slightly expanded tips facilitate its climbing ability, underlining its arboreal specialization. Taxonomically, R. rugosus was synonymized with R. everetti in 2016, consolidating its status within the genus.
